Strategic Vision Development
Strategy is more than a plan. It is vision, culture and leadership working together
What We Do
Strategy without culture is fragile. For First Nations organisations, a strong strategy must balance cultural authority with operational delivery. Too often, organisations have vision statements that remain on paper, disconnected from systems and people.
At Buneen Consulting, we work with boards, leaders and communities to design strategic visions that are culturally strong, practical and achievable. Our work strengthens governance, unites members and staff, and creates a pathway for long-term growth.
Strong organisations are guided by strong visions. At Buneen, we co-design strategies that are culturally grounded and built to last
Our Approach
Our methodology draws on years of supporting Traditional Owner Corporations, ACCOs, and community organisations through complex strategy and governance processes. We combine evidence-based business tools with Aboriginal-led practice, using the SAFE + BRAVE framework to guide the work.
The Strategic Development Process
1. Enquiry Phase – Listening and Discovery
We begin with community and organisational engagement, gathering insights from boards, staff and members. Tools may include PESTLE, SWOT and cultural mapping.
Deliverable: Baseline insights into strengths, challenges and aspirations.
2. Action Phase – Co-Designing the Strategy
We facilitate workshops with boards and leadership teams to co-design a vision, values and strategic priorities. Using structured tools, we translate cultural authority into operational clarity.
Deliverable: A co-designed Strategic Plan or Vision Document, ready to guide the organisation.
3. Maintenance Phase – Embedding and Reviewing
We work with organisations to embed strategy into governance, staff workflows and reporting. We also establish regular review cycles and accountability frameworks.
Deliverable: Implementation roadmap, board reporting templates, and scheduled review processes.
Why It Matters
- Governance Strength: The Productivity Commission (2020) highlighted that strong governance and strategy are critical for Aboriginal organisations to achieve independence and sustainability.
- Community Impact: When strategies are co-designed, organisations build greater unity and trust between members, boards and staff (ORIC Reports, 2019–2023).
- Sustainability: Deloitte (2020) found that organisations with clear strategies and accountability outperform peers on growth and resilience.
- First Nations Organisations: Strategic planning grounded in culture ensures long-term independence from over-reliance on government funding and strengthens community authority.
