At Buneen, we help organisations create BRAVE spaces where people feel safe to speak, contribute and lead
Psychological Safety
What We Do – Psychological Safety
Psychological safety is the ability for people to speak openly, share ideas, raise concerns and admit mistakes without fear of punishment or exclusion. It is now recognised as one of the strongest drivers of innovation, performance and retention in modern organisations (Edmondson, 2019; Deloitte, 2020).
At Buneen Consulting, we take psychological safety further. We help organisations build both SAFE foundations and BRAVE practices. SAFE ensures trust, stability and respect. BRAVE calls people into accountability, truth-telling and courageous leadership. Together, they create teams that are not only safe to belong, but brave enough to act.
Psychological safety is not a trend. It is the foundation of high-performing teams
Our Approach
Our methodology comes from First Nations truth-telling and healing practices, where safety had to be created before difficult conversations could occur, and bravery was required to move beyond comfort into accountability. From this lived experience, we developed the SAFE + BRAVE framework.
BRAVE – the aspiration
- Belonging: people feel part of, not just present.
- Respect: culture, protocols and diversity upheld.
- Accountability: words are matched with action.
- Voice: truth-telling and feedback normalised.
- Empowerment: people equipped to grow and lead.
SAFE – the foundation
- Self: reflection and identity.
- Action: commitments turned into accountable behaviour.
- Family: kinship, belonging and support.
- Environments: systems and spaces designed for inclusion.
This framework has been tested in truth-telling forums with communities, boards and leadership teams, and is now applied to workplaces to build both psychological safety and courageous accountability.
