Creating BRAVE Organisations that Embrace First Peoples
What We Do – Cultural Safety
Buneen works with organisations to embed cultural safety into their systems. Our approach follows three clear phases, moving from discovery to long-term sustainable change. The phases and indicative investment are outlined below.
At Buneen, we create BRAVE spaces where people feel safe to speak openly, be themselves, and contribute with confidence
Our Three-Phase Approach to Cultural Safety
Creating cultural safety is not a one-off project. It is a journey that requires evidence, action, and long-term accountability. At Buneen , we guide organisations through a clear three-phase process that moves from discovery into sustainable change.
-

The foundation of cultural safety is understanding. We begin by investigating current practices, identifying knowledge gaps, and listening to staff, leaders, and communities. Activities may include: - Site visits and cultural safety audits.
- Leadership and executive interviews.
- HR and recruitment pathway reviews.
- Engagement with Traditional Owners and Aboriginal organisations.
- Staff surveys and feedback tools. - Outcome - A Cultural Safety Enquiry Report with evidence, insights, and a 12–24 month stepped action plan.

-

With the evidence base in place, we co-design and implement strategies that create systemic change. This is where organisations move beyond awareness into measurable practice. Activities may include: - Rolling out cultural safety frameworks and policies.
- Delivering SAFE Leadership training for managers.
- Establishing formal engagement pathways with Traditional Owners and Aboriginal organisations.
- Designing tailored recruitment and retention strategies for First Peoples staff.
- Embedding measurement and reporting tools. - Outcome: - Cultural safety becomes part of everyday practice, aligned to organisational strategy and compliance obligations.

-

Cultural safety must be ongoing, not a one-off project. We work with organisations to maintain momentum and ensure long-term accountability. Activities may include: - Regular cultural safety reviews and refreshers.
- Continued engagement with Aboriginal communities.
- Monitoring and evaluation of employment and retention outcomes.
- Annual reporting to boards and leadership teams.
Outcome: A sustainable cultural safety system that evolves with the organisation and continues to hold people accountable.
